Level 2 and Level 3 Tests in English, general proficiency examinations at Levels B1, B2 and C1 in the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) respectively, were developed by the staff of St Petersburg University, specialists in the field of testology.

For SPbU students:
- Students with the B2 certificate get partial credit on the interim assessment in English
- Students with the C1 certificate get full credit on the interim assessment in English
An applicant who has successfully passed the test gets a certificate which is taken into account when applying to St Petersburg University for Graduate programmes and Doctoral programmes.

Registration procedure
- Select the test date according to the schedule
- Fill out an online questionnaire

- The candidate’s Russian Federation passport (spreadsheets with a photo and address of residence) or birth certificate (for candidates under 14 years old)
- Passport of the legal representative, if the candidate is under 18 years of age
For foreign citizens:
- Foreign/civil passport
- Russian migration card or passport translation (to draw up a contract with St. Petersburg State University, you will need to write the candidate’s name in Russian)
- Passport of the legal representative, if the candidate is under 18 years of age

The only condition for obtaining a certificate is successful completion of testing.
The required percentage for passing the test is from 51% to 100%.

Testing is conducted in person, and tasks are performed on paper.
The Certification Test at St. Petersburg State University consists of the following sections: speaking, listening, writing, reading and practical use of language material. You can learn more about the structure of the exam at a certain level by following the links:
- To evaluate the level of understanding of audio texts (main content, information extraction, full understanding) of different genres and styles
- To assess the level of writing skills in various genres and styles in accordance with the communicative purpose
- To assess the level of proficiency in different types of reading (main content, information extraction, complete understanding) for working with texts of different genres and styles
- To assess the level of grammar and vocabulary application in a communicative context
- To assess the level of oral skills for solving communication tasks
The test results will be sent to the candidates by email within 25 business days after the exam date.
Upon successful completion of the test, the certificate can be picked up at the address: 11/2, Lieutenant Schmidt Emb, room 210 (1st floor) weekdays, 9 am — 6 pm.
The certificate is valid for two years.
