HSK (汉语水平考试,Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) is an international standardised test of Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers.

HSKK(汉语水平口语考试,Hanyu Shuiping Kouyu Kaoshi) is an international test Chinese Proficiency Speaking Test for non-native speakers.

The test was developed by the China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, an agency of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the HSK Center of Beijing Language and Culture University. It assesses the level of Chinese language proficiency for day-to-day, educational and professional purposes. The HSK test has been conducted internationally since 1992.

Why take Chinese proficiency test?

The test is designed to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers (including foreigners, overseas ethnic Chinese and students from Chinese national minorities). Attaining a Chinese language proficiency certificate facilitates:

  • enrolment / admission to educational institutions of China;
  • participation in scholarship competition to finance internships in China
  • employment with Chinese, Russian-Chinese joint-venture companies, or Russian organisations that cooperate with China;
  • skill upgrade and confidence in Chinese language skills.

In addition to the cost of the exam, a registration fee of 1000 rubles must be paid to St. Petersburg State University for processing and preparing documents, assembling exam materials for shipment, consulting services and webinar for exam participants. This amount will be included in the final cost of the exam.

Registration

It is important for the candidate to consider that HSK and HSKK are two different exams. If you plan to take 2 exams on the same exam day, you need to register for each exam separately.

Examination registration procedure

  1. It is necessary to fill out the form

    • Candidate's passport (pages with photo and registered address) or birth certificate (for candidates under 14 years old)
    • Passport of the representative in case the candidate is under 18 years old
    • Foreign passport (if available)
    • Photo for candidates applying for levels 3-6 and/or for the oral exam HSKK. The photo must be in frontal view as for documents, strictly in JPG format (please familiarize yourself with the photo requirements on the exam site).
  3. The application and the documents must be sent from one email address.

Requirements for the photograph

  • Color or black-and-white image
  • Image file size 15-500 KB(3x4 cm, JPG format)
  • The photo must be clear in the frontal view as in documents.

Not allowed:

  • blurry and unclear photographs, making it difficult to identify the candidate;
  • photos with bangs covering the face;
  • photos in profile, full-length, in hats and sunglasses;
  • photos of other people.

All incoming applications to the email are processed manually by the Testing Center staff, so the waiting time for a response is up to 2-3 days. If you do not receive a response in time, please contact us by phone at +7 (812) 363-64-06.

A contract will be drawn up in the name of the examineeThe staff of the Center will send the contract along with the payment details for the exam to the email address specified in the application.

Important: After sending the signed documents and the payment receipt to the Center, be sure to check that you have received a letter confirming the receipt of these documents. If you do not receive confirmation within 2-3 business days, please contact us at +7 (812) 363-64-06.

Exam day

Information about the location of the exam will be additionally indicated in the letter that we will send from the mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. 10-14 days before the exam.

On the day of the exam, participants are allowed entry into the auditorium 20 minutes before the start of the test. Participants should arrive at the exam point 30-40 minutes before the start of the test.

To have with you:

  • registration slip/pass (this document is sent to each participant's email 10-14 days before the exam)
  • identity document, the details of which are indicated in the registration certificate
  • two pencils 2B
  • eraser, sharpener

Exam structure

Written exam (HSK)

The written exam is divided into six levels (HSK 1–6). It is conducted in the form of a test, the tasks of which are divided into several parts depending on the level. To successfully pass the HSK 1-2 exam, a minimum of 120 points is required, and for HSK 3-6, 180 points.

Oral exam (HSKK)

The oral exam is divided into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The structure of the exam depends on the level. The exam is recorded on an audio medium. To successfully pass the HSKK exam (all levels), it is necessary to score at least 60 points.

Result and Certificate HSK/HSKK

The results of the HSK and HSKK exams are published on the official exam portal 1 month after the test date. Center staff additionally notify participants of this via email.

Certificates arrive at the center two months after the exam. To obtain the certificate, it is necessary to present an identity document and the participant's registration slip.

The certificate is valid for 2 years after the announcement of the exam results.
